300+ People In Need In Detroit Get Free Haircuts

Today approximately 300 low income and homeless people were treated to a free shampoo and haircut at the Cass Community Social Services (Cass).

The event was held in partnership between Cass and Paul Mitchell The School Michigan. This is the third year that the PMTS4Change has taken place.

More than 20 stylists from the school at the event to give shampoos, haircuts, and hair braiding to people in the community.

“This day is about so much more than just shampoos and haircuts by professional stylists – these volunteers are giving people dignity and the recognition that they are devoid of on a day-to-day basis,” said Cass Executive Director Faith Fowler.

According to Fowler, there was a mixture of homeless people and school kids getting their hair cut in preparation for school.

There was more happening during the event than just haircuts.

The three area Paul Mitchell schools collected clothes to set up a table for clothing donation. Attendees also received “Street Survival Kits” which contained toiletries and personal items.

The HUDA Clinic was on location to give free health screenings to those who came to the event.

There was food, too. Beans & Cornbread, Tasty Fixins’, and Faustina’s Creole & Soul Food also contributed to the event.
